Based on our past experience as professional circus artists, we at the Circus Guide Entertainment Agency understand how difficult it can be for artists trying to make contact with entertainment agencies, theatres, circuses, and other possible employers. With this in mind, we decided to make this short tutorial for all circus performers wanting to join our entertainment agency artist database.
Have you ever wondered why after sending so many emails to different entertainment agencies you never heard anything back from them? This article was written by the Circus Guide Entertainment Agency dedicated to all circus performers, dancers, singers, musicians, and specialty acts in the hope that the information below will help them to promote themselves more efficiently, and to be noticed!
Here are a few little do’s and don’ts that will help you create agent friendly introductory emails. We hope these tips will help you to be noticed not only by us, but also by other entertainment agencies. Please feel free to share it with your friends and colleagues.
Keep track of who you have sent introduction emails to, and the names of the entertainment agency and the agents you want to work with. Make sure you only send one email to the official casting address, in our case it is: casting(AT)circusguideagency.com. Â
If we have had contact with you before, it is impolite and impersonal to keep receiving messages from you as if we’ve never been introduced. If you wish to send follow-up emails reminding us of your work, then that’s fine, just not your introductory email that you send out en masse to all other entertainment agencies. This kind of attention to detail (or lack thereof) shows us your level of professionalism.
Please don’t send to entertainment agencies Merry Christmas and Happy New Year emails, We consider it as spam. We all agree there’s too much spam in the world today, so please don’t contribute to the problem. Please don’t spam us!
Always use only one official email which you consider your main working account… Our entertainment agency have circus artists using many different email accounts and we find it very confusing and counterproductive. It’s most useful to create an email address which includes your name, or the name of your act.Â
Please be kind! No matter how famous you may be, it costs nothing to be polite and will go a long way to helping you in your career. Entertainment agencies don’t work with rude people :)
We at the Circus Guide Entertainment Agency receive so many emails every day, and if you want yours to be noticed, make sure your email is short, concise, and includes only essential information we need to know. If the email either is too long, or conversely does not contain enough info, the chances are we will not pay attention to it and it will get lost in our already very full inbox.Â
An introductory email should include:
A good introduction explaining who you are and what it is you do. You wouldn’t believe how many circus artists send just a video link in an otherwise empty email with no name and not even the customary “hello” at the beginning of the message!
Good quality video links with the full act title, and a few photos of the acts you after, close up portraits photos, act photos, website links, as well as your contact details.
Please make sure all the promotional material you send including the email itself, your videos and photos, are properly labelled.
No outdated video materials, entertainment agents don’t need to see 10 different variations of your silk act in bad quality.
Videos need to be agent friendly, meaning we don’t want to see any contact details or water marks on them.
If you send us download links, make sure they are not larger than 100MB in size per video, and always named accordingly. Please don’t send us short promo/showreels.  We don’t work with them. Any one can look good in an edited high-lights showreel. We, like our clients, need to see your act from beginning to end with as little editing as possible. Most often circus artists are hired solely on the strength or their video material. Entertainment agents as well as their clients need to see an honest representation of what they are buying.
Always provide as much technical info about your act as an attachment to the main email. Please know your equipment and your needs for performance, Be prepared! Again, this attention to detail shows your level of professionalism.
Please let us know whether you would like your videos to be displayed to the general public, or hidden from general viewing. We understand and respect your privacy choices.
Consider using an email signature that include your contact details and web address. A good signature looks like this:
Circus Guide Entertainment Agency
Tel: +61 498 480 573
Please pay attention when reading casting announcements from our entertainment agency website, Facebook or Twitter pages. We receive so many replies from circus artists who clearly have not read the casting call correctly.
Be patient! if you hear nothing back from us or any other entertainment agency you’ve written to, it might be due to several different reasons, for example: we already have your info in our agency artist database, we might be traveling, or very busy with the very important casting.Â
